WAITLIST STATEMENT

Cabrillo College Dental Hygiene Program currently admits 22 students one time a year, in June. Cabrillo’s Dental Hygiene program has an Application/Selection Process that allows students to submit an application during a specific filing period, once all prerequisites have been completed. Students who have received written notice of acceptance into our program will be added to our waitlist, in order, based on the certified mail postmark date of their application packet. We rigorously control the wait list based exclusively on your application postmark date. Students who maintain their waitlist status are guaranteed placement into the program.
Beginning fall 2012, the DH Waitlist and Waitlist Intent Forms are posted to the web site for one month, once a year beginning the first day of November. All applicants and waitlisted applicants must now have a Cabrillo Student ID in order to receive a waitlist number. Waitlist positions cannot be given out in person, over the telephone or via email.

Students who do not want their number included in the list published to the web site must submit a request in writing via US postal mail to: Cabrillo College Dental Hygiene Program, 6500 Soquel Drive, Aptos, CA, 95003 or email to dentalhygiene @cabrillo.edu.

In order to maintain your position on our waitlist, all waitlisted students must print a Waitlist Intent Form from the web page, complete it and mail it to our office via certified mail postmarked by the date specified on the form. The required postmark date for the Waitlist Intent Forms is noted specifically on the form. Once the postmark due date has past, the Waitlist Intent forms will be removed from the website.
Failure to submit Waitlist Intent Forms by the required postmark date, via certified mail, will result in your removal from the waitlist.

CONTACT INFORMATION

While on the waitlist, maintaining accurate contact information is essential. It is extremely important that you notify the Dental Hygiene Program Office, in writing, of any changes to your mailing address, phone number, and email. Contact update info may be sent by visiting the DH Program website and completing the Contact Update Form  via email to dental_hygiene @cabrillo.edu or via postal mail to Cabrillo College Dental Hygiene Program, 6500 Soquel Drive, Aptos, CA, 95003. You may also bring your contact info updates to our office which is located in room 1550 on the lower campus. Contact info updates will not be accepted over the phone. We will use the contact information you provide to communicate with you. If we are unable to reach you by phone, email or postal mail, you will be removed from the waitlist.

WAIT TIME

While we can guarantee placement into the program, we cannot guarantee when students will begin the program, given the variables of the waitlist. Given normal life events (moves, jobs, pregnancy, changes in priorities), not all of those on our waitlist will actually start our program. An average of 25% of the waitlisted students drop-off the list for various reasons. This allows others on the waitlist to move up the list. This is one of the most difficult variables of the waitlist to predict.

Given the number of students on the waitlist and the program’s experience with the variables inherent with such a waitlist, we estimate a wait of 1 to 2 years from the postmark date of application for those currently applying to the program. Your wait could be less than this, or more than this, given the many variables involved. We strongly encourage qualified students to apply to the program.

HOW TO USE YOUR TIME ON THE WAIT LIST PRODUCTIVELY

The length of the waitlist can fluctuate greatly and should not deter committed students from pursuing their goals. Please check the Cabrillo Dental Hygiene Program web page regularly for information about how to use your time on the wait list productively. We post valuable information about professional certificates, educational opportunities, financial aid, program requirements and other information pertinent to students pursuing a career in health care. There are many productive things to do while on the waitlist, though town of the most important are: finishing the required general education classes to graduate and prepare yourself financially. The web site is an invaluable link to our program and the health care education opportunities in our area.

The opportunities described below will help you develop NECESSARY skills that you will use as a Dental Hygiene student and in your career in health care. Please carefully read the information below.
