Digital Media

Careers

The field of graphic design, which includes digital publishing and web media fields, is a rapidly evolving industry with a vast array of career opportunities. Jobs and careers are always emerging in the fast-paced, ever-changing world of digital media. As new technologies and media platforms emerge, the possibilities for digital media professionals are only increasing.

Graduates of Digital Media programs are equipped to pursue entry-level positions, internships, and even start their own businesses in this exciting field.

Students will complete a portfolio of work at the end of the program, completing the DM8 Digital Media Portfolio course. A designer’s portfolio is arguably their most important tool—it will be used when searching for a job, pitching ideas to clients, and showcasing design work for freelance opportunities.

Employers have specified three important qualities, in order of importance, for digital media job seekers:

  • Talent (visual design principles, color theory, typographic design, and creative problem solving, ideation—the creative process of generating, developing, and communicating new ideas)

  • Teamwork (effective communication, the ability to critique design work, time-management skills, collaboration, story telling, and problem-solving skills)

  • Technological aptitude (proficient with industry standard digital media tools and techniques, Adobe CC software, web programming)
