New for Fall 2009: Math 2 (Pre-Calc Algebra, 4 units) and Math 3 (Pre-Calc Trigonometry, 3 units) will be offered as an alternative to Math 4 (Pre-Calculus, 5 units). These two courses may be taken in either order or concurrently to satisfy the prerequisite for Math 5A, Calculus. The Fall 2009 Catalog and Schedule of Classes will have more information.
We offer a comprehensive curriculum,
from arithmetic through linear algebra and differential
equations, including courses such as statistics, finite
mathematics, discrete mathematics, and business calculus. For you future
elementary school teachers, we offer Number Systems, the first of the
three-course math requirement.
We have a full-time teaching staff of
twenty instructors and a part time teaching staff of
twenty-four instructors. Our teaching styles vary greatly,
and we encourage the diversity to meet our students'
learning needs. We recognize the varied levels of expertise
and learning styles among our students, and we endeavor
to help each student achieve her or his unique mathematical
potential. We truly believe that it is our duty to
prepare our students for their educational and career
choices.
Our top priority is the education of
our students. We strive constantly for excellence and
clarity in our teaching, helping the students to build
a solid academic foundation, whether for one's own
personal enrichment, or to prepare one to move on to
a higher-education institution. We encourage our students
to appreciate the power, utility, and beauty of mathematics.
Cabrillo College has a long tradition
of providing quality mathematics education from the
very basics through elementary calculus and differential
equations. We can support your math growth, from arithmetic
through university-level mathematics with our coursework,
excellent tutoring assistance in the Math Learning
Center, and math anxiety and study skills help.
Throughout our department, we are here for you and your success. Welcome!
