A scholarship gift is truly an investment in the future of our students, and they are grateful for the opportunities such gifts bring to them. At a recent Scholarship Ceremony, scholarship recipient Tiffiny shared her inspirational story. She is the recipient of several scholarships and like many Cabrillo students came to Cabrillo as a re-entry student. Until the age of 30, Tiffiny had only an eighth grade education. The birth of her first son was the impetus for her to get her GED, and the birth of her second son spurred her to come to Cabrillo, where she has earned a 4.0 GPA and is enrolled in the nursing program. The following is an excerpt from her speech:
“Cabrillo College has opened up a whole new world for me. My dreams and goals would not be possible without the financial support that I have received from scholarship donors. Like many in Santa Cruz County, my husband and I struggle to make ends meet. Your support has allowed me to focus on my studies and education, and in turn, will ultimately enable me to provide support for my own children when they embark on their college careers. I thank you, my family thanks you. I am truly honored by your award, and I will work hard to attain my goals and give back to this wonderful community.”
