Important Message from the Cheer Team Director

Here at Cabrillo we pride ourselves in developing students into college level cheerleaders and will take students who are at diferent levels of experience.

When we picking the cheer team, we will pick returners and new members who are already to cheer at a college level. But we will also pick students that we feel can be cheerleading at a college level by the end of summer.

The Important things for us will be, to pick students that have the determination, natural ability and the athletism to be doing college level cheeleading by the end of summer.

So, More than anything we want to see if you  have the determination, natural ability and athletism necessary to develop you into a college level cheerleader..

If you have never been a cheerleader before or its been some time since you did any cheerleading, We want to encourage you to try-out.  Some of our best cheerleaders had never done cheerleading before joining us, so do not be discourage by your current knowledge of cheerleading.

Red Shirting

Some Students who do not make the team will be asked to Red Shirt.

Although we might not think at the time of your try-out or by the time summer ends, that you are ready to be on the cheer team, you may be ready to join the Cheer Team by the middle of the season or sooner.

We will want to work with you to get you there.  This will give you time to work on your skills and also hopefully surprise us by making the team sooner.

Red shirters have until mid-season to make the Cheer team, After that Red Shirtng ends and you will have to try-out again next year.

Our current captain started out as a red shirter and quickly moved up, so do not get discouraged if you are asked to red shirt.  It is not a negative thing.
