CABRILLO STAGE ANNOUNCES EXPANDED 2010 SEASON

Four-Show Season Begins June 18 and Runs Through Christmas, 2010

Aptos—Expect a summer of Broadway entertainment for all tastes as Cabrillo Stage presents their upcoming expanded 29th season of live, professional musical theatre. This year’s summer repertory productions include a reprise of I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change performing in the Cabrillo Black Box Theater June 18 - July 3, Swing! performing June 25 - July 18 and Cabaret, July 23 - August 15, both in the Cabrillo Crocker Theater.

Last summer Cabrillo Stage sold-out critically acclaimed productions of I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, The Wizard Of Oz and Scrooge. In the wake of such success, the county’s only musical theatre company will present three shows in repertory this summer and will produce Scrooge this Christmas, bringing their season to four prouctions.
“This is an amazing time of growth and artistic vision for the company,” says Producing Artistic Director Jon Nordgren. “With the new Performing Arts facilities and the success of our last two seasons, this is the perfect opportunity for Cabrillo Stage to expand its season and, ‘make our garden grow’. “

Back by popular demand, the original cast of 2009’s I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, returns for three weeks only, starting June 18. This hit musical comedy tackles the truths and myths behind the contemporary conundrum known as “the relationship.” Four actors play over forty characters in a hilarious series of vignettes that take the audience through the complexities and absurdity of dating, love and finally marriage. Hailed by critics as “Seinfeld set to music,” the show reveals the difficulties and joys of connecting with another person, no matter what age. Audiences be laughing and singing along with this hip, funny and witty escapade.

Starting June 25th is Swing! “Two-thirds rhythm and one-third soul.” That’s how Fats Waller defined the uniquely American form of popular music and dance known as “Swing.” Exploding out of pre-war Harlem’s hotbed of youth culture, swing swept the world, shattering ethnic and cultural barriers. Swing! celebrates this remarkable diversity to the beat of the most exhilarating songs of the period. What this enthralling song-and-dance show makes abundantly clear is that swing was never a time or place, it has always been a state of mind!

Cabrillo Stage’s third summer offering is Cabaret, opening July 23rd. Winner of 12 Tony Awards for both the original and revival productions, Cabaret is a brilliantly conceived musical masterpiece. Set in the early days of the Nazi regime, the Kit Kat Klub is a decadent refuge from the political turmoil outside. The cabaret’s gleefully lecherous emcee offers social commentary between numbers by English expatriate and party girl Sally Bowles, who believes that life is a cabaret.
Cabrillo Stage’s expanded 2010 season offers subscription packages (four shows for as low as $95), individual and group ticket rates, special children’s presentations and pre/post-show discussions.
Subscription packages are now available online. Individual ticket sales at the box office start May 28.
