21st Century Employability Skills

The workplace is changing! Now it is clear that skills once deemed, “soft,” like the ability to communicate, collaborate, demonstrate self-awareness and empathy, are the powerful differentiators that can help you stand out above the crowd when searching for a job, and can make you more promotable than your counterparts.

21st century skills are considered by industry leaders, HR professionals, and educators to be the knowledge, work habits, and character traits necessary for workers to succeed in today’s rapidly changing work environment. And these skills can be learned and sharpened!

"The New World of Work” is a 21st Century Skills Program that teaches the employability skills that all students, job seekers, and employees need to succeed! There are 10 modules in this program. You can attend the whole series or just those modules that are applicable to a skill you want to develop.

Take ALL TEN MODULES for just $495 or individual modules for $58 each.

Instructor: Rhiannon Surrenda is the Executive Director at California Corporate College,She spends her time understanding the demands of the current workplace and creating training programs to help people gain the skills they need to be successful. Rhiannon is a certified trainer for the “New World of Work” program across the state

Module 1
Being Adaptable
Adaptability is key for the 21st Century worker. Those who can adapt and “roll with the punches” are not only easier to work with, they offer a greater value to their work teams. And, they suffer less stress along the way. In this module, we will help you become more adaptable to the degree of change that is now common in any workplace.

Module 2

Building Self Awareness
In order to succeed in the 21st Century workforce, employees must be acutely aware of their strengths, values, and propensities. Today’s workers need to have a deep understanding of their own transferable skills and strengths that could be applied in seemingly disparate work situations. They must be prepared to pivot as technology continues to transform industries, forcing some jobs into obsolescence. In this class, you will begin to articulate your strengths and think about how those can help you sculpt your career.

Module 3

Digital Fluency - Your Personal Brand and Footprint
Digital technology is the underlying force behind the acute changes in the modern workplace. Digital technology dictates how workers can collaborate, organize, and communicate remotely. 21st Century workers must be comfortable with current technology and be willing to adapt to emerging technology as it pertains to their specific industries. In this class, we will analyze your “digital footprint” to ensure that it reinforces your personal brand.

Module 4
Communication Skills for the 21st Century
The 21st Century workplace requires effective communication via email, video conferencing, texting, blogging, and social media, in addition to face-to-face interactions and group communication. In both virtual and in person settings, communication essentials such as timing, clarity, tone and point, relationship regarding audience, and social and cultural appropriateness are essential to a worker’s effectiveness. In this workshop, you’ll explore the nuance of communicating effectively.

Module 5
Demonstrating Empathy
To have a truly innovative team, all members must tolerate the risk for failure and be able to empathize with members who experience disappointment in order to be more resilient and build from that experience. Empathy is at the core of trusted relationships, which is necessary for successful collaborations. In addition, empathy assists you in understanding the needs and challenges of your customers, resulting in new solutions and services. In this class we will work to build empathy for others, and strengthen our value to the team at the same time.

Module 6
Excellent Collaboration
21st Century workers need to be excellent collaborators. Collaboration will come in the form of freelance teams formed for specific projects or entire organizations that will need to collaborate to reach shared goals. In this class you will learn to recognize good partners, and employ empathy to see the partners’ points of view. You will also articulate your own core skills, which is a bonus to any collaborative relationship.

Module 7

Building a Solution Mindset
Because many jobs will be automated or outsourced, 21st Century workers with superior analytical skills and a solutions-based mindset will excel in the new world of work. Analytical skills will include statistical analysis, quantitative reasoning, and the ability to sort through data to arrive at conclusions that will create value. In this class, you’ll learn to adopt and apply a solutions mindset that will help you add value to every discussion

Module 8
Becoming Resilient
In today’s workplace, being innovative and creative requires resilience. Being resilient means that you can take appropriate risks, embrace the possibility for failure, and learn from every bump in the road. In this class we will examine your own capacity for resilience, and take a close look at how you demonstrate it at work.

Module 9
Working Well with Others: Building Social & Diversity Awareness
Global and multi-generational teams are characteristic of the 21st Century workplace. Workers should be comfortable collaborating on team projects with a variety of people from varying socioeconomic, generational, cultural, and national backgrounds. In this class, you will gain an understanding of how to work with others from different backgrounds, creating a distinct advantage for yourself as a 21st Century worker.

Module 10
Having an Entrepreneurial Mindset
An entrepreneurial mindset is at the core of future work. Workers will need to be able to recognize opportunities and learn from failure. Those who cultivate a strong network to tap into for assistance, work opportunities, and mentorship will enjoy a competitive advantage over passive workers. In this class we will consider ways that you can bring an entrepreneurial mindset into any work you do.
