Lifelong Learning Institute
The Cabrillo College Lifelong Learning Institute welcomes local
residents who are 55 and older. The group meets monthly during the
academic year for speakers, discussions and field trips. A steering
committee, comprised of volunteer members, plans all activities
and day trips for the group. New members to the Lifelong Learning
Institute and the steering committee are always welcome.
Members receive a monthly newsletter during the school year with
details of interest to the group and information about upcoming
events.
Recent speakers included Cabrillo Faculty: Brian Legakis, Art Historian, to discuss Leonardo daVinci; Cheryl Barkey on Women's History; Anne Baldzikowski, Culinary Instructor, gave a baking demonstration and a performance by Sue Brown & Michele Rivard, from the Music Department. We also had Gail Burk, president of the Santa Cruz Genealogical Society show us how to research our family tree.
The group has taken field trips
to San Francisco, Legion of Honor, Chinatown, the Eugene O'Neil House in Danville and the Sunset House in Menlo Park, to name
a few. Among the member's favorite annual events are the holiday
luncheon and a theater party to Cabrillo Stage's Summer Musical.
Special interest groups within the membership include a book club,
Mah Jong players, and a movie club.
Annual membership is $20 per person or couple, which defrays the
cost of the monthly mailing. Members pay individually for course
enrollment fees, museum tickets, meals and transportation for special
activities or field trips.
