Our award-winning Motorcycle Safety class is the only California Motocycle Safety Program (CMSP) approved class in Santa Cruz County.

Before Registering for a class, please read the Schedule information below and the Student Information which includes information about required equipment, certificates, cancellation and refund policy.

California Law requires that motorcycle and moped drivers under age 21 complete an approved safety training program before being issued a DMV Permit. The permit is valid for 6 months before a license will be issued.

This course fulfills the DMV requirement for under 21 riders. Riders over 21 also benefit since successful completion of the course may waive the riding skills test at the California DMV and insurance discounts may be available.

We provide motorcycles and helmets.

These classes are offered in English only.

Estas clases se ofrecen solamente en Ingles.

Fee for students under 21: $180
Fee for students over 21: $258

If you wish to receive the discounted fee you must call the Extension office, at 831-479-6331, to register. Please note that you must be UNDER 21 years old as of the first date of the first class in order to receive the discount. Additionally, you will be required to show proof of age/birth date at the time of class. If you cannot demonstrate that you are under the age of 21 at the time of the first class date your registration for that class will be immediately cancelled and you will be issued a $180 credit. You may use this credit to register for a class with an open seat and apply the credit toward the full fee for the class.

We hold two class sessions per month and they fill quickly.

LOCATION: The two day lecture portion of class is held on two Thursday evenings in room 1522. The range (riding) portion of class is held on two Saturdays in Cabrillo Parking lot M. See Interactive Campus Map for details.

SCHEDULE: Each class consists of 4 meetings total:

  • 2 consecutive Thursday evenings (6:30pm to 10pm) and

  • 2 consecutive Saturdays. There are two Saturday sessions. The morning session is 6:45 am to noon. The afternoon session is 12:45pm to 6:00pm.

Each student is assigned either the morning or the afternoon Saturday range times during the first classroom session and cannot be pre-scheduled. Before you register for a class please be certain you can be available for either the morning or afternoon sessions on both Saturdays.

Please note that during the months of November and December, due to limited daylight, we offer only Saturday morning range classes. Please plan accordingly.

You must be able to attend all four meetings.  When registering for a class, be certain that you can attend all four meetings and arrive on time to avoid being dropped from the class.

Before Registering for a class, please read the Schedule information above and the Student Information which includes information about required equipment, certificates, cancellation, failure, and refund policy.

Please note that we rarely fill classes from waitlists. We encourage students to register for a class that has availability.
