Creating Videos and Posting Online

ConferZoom and 3C Media can be used together to record online lectures, and request closed captioning. The videos can then be embedded in your online course in Canvas. This page contains a list of resources for both systems. If you are interested in recording and posting videos in your online class, then please contact the TLC to schedule a training session. The introductory session usually takes about one hour. Addional training and support are available upon request. Accounts, training, and support are provided for Cabrillo employees only.

Closed Captions

In order meet accessibility standards, closed captions are required for any video posted on the Cabrillo website, or in a class in Canvas.

  • 3C Media Solutions provides captioning services to California Community Colleges, but only for videos that are used in teaching classes.
  • Captioning services may be purchased from an outside vendor, such as, if they are needed in a video that is for a purpose other than teaching a class.
  • The Accessibility Support Center (ASC) may have additional options available.

ConferZoom can be used to host webinars, conduct virtual meetings with students, and record online lectures. It is a free service for the administrators, faculty, and staff at Cabrillo. ConferZoom is funded by a grant from the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office.

3C Media Solutions

Upload media to the cloud for use in your online class, get closed captioning for a recorded lecture, and more. 3C Media accepts the following formats for upload: mp4, m4v, mkv, flv, wmv, avi, mov, mpg, webm, mp3, m4a, wma, wav. The most commonly used format is mp4.

Video files can also be posted online using YouTube. However, the automatic captioning provided by YouTube is not as reliable as the captioning provided by 3C Media, and must be checked manually. Videos posted on YouTube must meet the same accessibility standards as those that are posted on 3C Media or elsewhere.
