Welcome to the Center for Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense

As a leader in cybersecurity education, Cabrillo Community College has applied for the Centers of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE) designation. Cabrillo College currently offers a Cybersecurity Skills Certificate that becomes a DHS and NSA approved pathway to a Cybersecurity career. CAE will provide innovative, comprehensive, and multidisciplinary education and training in the CD field.

Cabrillo College’s CAE will provide program guidance and oversight; general cyber defense information; and collaboration and outreach opportunities among students, faculty, and other institutions.

The CAE is led by Irvin Lemus. Irvin has been a CIS Instructor, Specializing in Cyber Security at Cabrillo since 2017. He also leads Cyber Security Competitions at Cabrillo, one of two AFA Cyber Security Competition Centers of Excellence that he has founded. Irvin is also the Bay Area Cyber Competitions Regional Coordinator at the Western Academy Support and Training Center.


Background

The National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense is jointly sponsored by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The CAE program’s goal is to proactively increase our understanding of robust Cyber Defense (CD) technology, policy, and practices that will enable our Nation to effectively prevent and respond to a catastrophic cyber event. This program will contribute significantly to the advancement of state-of-the-art CD knowledge and practice.
