Betty Avila, Executive Director, Self Help Graphics + Art, Los Angeles
The fourth CrossTalks event was held on May 11, 2022, 5:00–6:00 pm on Zoom.
Betty Avila is the Executive Director of Self Help Graphics & Art in Los Angeles, a non-profit arts and education venue that fosters the creation and advancement of new art works by Chicana/o and Latinx artists through experimental and innovative printmaking techniques and other visual art forms. Betty Avila’s work has centered on the intersection of the arts and social justice, with particular focus on community building, public space, and youth empowerment. Betty joined Self Help Graphics’ leadership in 2015, an organization with a 48-year nationally-recognized artistic legacy of empowering the Chicana/o and Latinx communities of Los Angeles through the arts.

Dr. David Cutler, Dr. David Cutler, Director of Music Entrepreneurship, University of South Carolina
The third CrossTalks event was held on April 26, 2021, 5:00–6:00 pm on Zoom.
Dr. David Cutler is a pianist and composer equally comfortable with classical, jazz, popular, folk and world music. Stretching what it means to be a performer, events regularly involve crazy antics: extreme eclecticism, choreography, humor, interdisciplinary collaboration, superhero costumes, character ushers, celebrity cameos, kazoo playing marching bands, you name it. In his varied roles as educator, arranger, conductor, collaborator, concert producer, author, blogger, consultant, speaker, advocate and entrepreneur, he works to push boundaries while connecting with new audiences.

Angela Chambers, Development Director and Programming Manager at the Tannery World Dance Cultural Center
The second CrossTalks event was held on April 6, 2021, 5:00–6:00 pm on Zoom.
Chambers teaches dance while also pursuing her passion for supporting youth development and community activation. She is currently the Project Manager for the Black Health Matters initiative. She actively seeks new ways to engage her dedication to community organizing, youth empowerment, and the performing arts.

Creative Alumni Career Talk with Casey Mattson - March 10th, 2021
On Wednesday March 10th from 1:00pm - 1:30pm on Zoom for an insightful creative career talk featuring Cabrillo alum Casey Mattson. Casey is a platinum-certified songwriter, producer and jazz pianist.
Naz Arandi, Global Creative Director, Apple TV
The first Crosstalks event was held on March 4, 2021, 5:00–6:00 pm on Zoom.
Our first speaker was Naz Arandi, a creative with over 15 years experience in the advertising and design industry. Arandi has been telling human stories, using technology as an invisible engine to propel immersive brand narratives for Apple, Netflix, Mexico Tourism, PayPal, and others. Currently Global Creative Director at Apple TV, Arandi utilizes the culmination of her experiences to lead a cross-functional team in product launches, editorial, content and strategic innovation to further propel the brand's next phase and big ideas.
