Career Classes

Want to earn college credit for career development? Cabrillo offers a range of classes to complement your coursework and help you get ahead professionally. These courses can help you:

  • prepare for college and select your major

  • prepare for interviews and search for internships

  • build your workplace confidence and competencies

Counseling and Guidance Courses

Introduces the tools necessary to increase academic and life success including college expectations, resources, facilities, requirements, and educational planning. (1 unit)

Assists students in exploring and evaluating major, career, and employment choices. Students will self-assess values, skills, and personality characteristics to examine how individual, family, social, and cultural perspectives influence major and career choices. Students will learn and apply decision-making processes, practice goal setting, and develop an educational plan to meet their goals. (1.5 units)

Integrate personal growth, learning techniques, problem-solving, and critical and creative thinking to enhance academic and career success. Topics include self-evaluation and assessment, goal setting, career decision-making, educational planning, time and financial management, instructor-student relationships, college culture and expectations, diversity and inclusion, healthy lifestyle, stress management, campus resources, learning styles and strategies, note-taking, test-taking, memory, and concentration. (1.5-3 units)

Internship or Work Experience Classes

Provides learning experiences for students employed in a job or internship related to their major. Students will complete hours at their approved work site to gain experience, develop workplace competencies, and build their professional network by creating and achieving career-related learning objectives. May be offered in a distance-learning format.

Career Skills Certificate Classes (tuition-free)

Introduces fundamental knowledge, strategies, and resources to create a professional portfolio. Students apply techniques to compose a resume. May be offered in a distance-learning format.

*Complete DMCP 402 and DMCP 403 to earn a Certificate of Completion

Introduces fundamental knowledge as well as strategies and resources to seek, apply, and interview for professional work experience. Students identify and utilize various job search and professional networking platforms and prepare to apply and interview for jobs and internships. May be offered in a distance-learning format.

*Complete DMCP 402 and DMCP 403 to earn a Certificate of Completion

Develops the skills necessary for success in a professional workplace environment. Students will explore and practice tools to maximize positive working relationships and enhance productivity. May be offered in a distance-learning format.

*Complete DMCP 404 and DMCP 405 to earn a Certificate of Completion

Explores how professionalism and personal accountability are key to overall career satisfaction and success. Students develop both long-term and short-term goals to reach full potential and create a balanced life. May be offered in a distance-learning format.
