Are you looking to learn more about different career resources that exist?

This resource page exists to highlight some online tools and direct students to do some self-exploration. There are many tools out there for career exploration and preparedness but it can become overwhelming.

These are some of the tools and features that Cabrillo College Career Services staff encourage students to check out.

Career Podcast: What to Be

What to Be is a local radio show hosted by Your Future Is Our Business, a Santa Cruz non-profit which helps students explore careers. They interview and highlight the careers of inspirational people in Santa Cruz County and ask them to tell us what their job is really like, and how they got there!

  • The show airs Sundays at 7pm 90.7fm KSQD Santa Cruz, or streamed online at ksqd.org. New episodes uploaded every week!

The newly renovated Candid Career + provides you with a fun and effective way to explore careers and learn about job search strategies through thousands of 1-2 minute video clips that are updated weekly:

Career Coach Tutorial

Career Coach is an interactive and free career exploration tool that allows you to match information on job titles, education paths, and job market data for the local region based upon your interests from a simple interest inventory to possible careers.

Personalized results will include which programs at Cabrillo can prepare you for the career(s) you're interested in, what job openings exist that are related to your career interests, and in-demand skills for various careers.

Additionally, Career Coach includes an easy-to-use resume builder.

An easy-to-use electronic tool that enables users to explore occupations and find related information, including job openings, job outlook information, salaries, apprenticeships, and other related education and training programs. Available free online and specially designed for students.

ProTip: The My Next Move website is a student-friendly interface of O*NET.

Occupational Outlook handbook Image
Occupational Outlook Handbook

The Occupational Outlook Handbook is a nationally recognized source of career information, designed to provide valuable assistance to individuals making decisions about their future work lives. Revised every two years, the Handbook describes what workers do on the job, working conditions, the training and education needed, earnings, expected job prospects in a wide range of occupations, and links to professional associations.
