My name is Noel Smyth and I am originally from Iowa. I have a PhD in history so you could call me Doctor Smyth, but prefer to be more informal so please just call me Noel! (If you want to be formal, Mr. Noel or Dr. Noel is good too!) I have been living in Santa Cruz for about 15 years and I love the area for hiking, swimming, and for the incredible disc golf courses! I have a passion for history and especially Native American history. In addition to teaching at Cabrillo, I work with the Natchez Nation of Oklahoma and I am involved in a language project to rejuvenate the Natchez language. My classes at Cabrillo focus on the diversity of people and experiences in the past which have shaped the world we live in today.
