Degrees and Certificates
The Early Childhood Education program provides the course work required for the State of California, Department of Education, Child Development Permits. The course work is also appropriate for TK teachers who need to complete the required units. We also offer eight different Certificates of Achievement, two degrees (an Associate in Science and an Associate in Science - Transfer), two Certificates of Completion and one Skills Certificate. The AS-T degree transfers to four- year programs in Child Development, Human Development, or Early Childhood Education, with priority given to Cabrillo students at both San Jose State University (Child and Adolescent Development Department) and California State University Monterey Bay (Human Development Department).
Most of the 51 Early Childhood Education classes are held in the evening since many Early Childhood Education students work full time and many are raising young families themselves.

Early Childhood Education - Associate in Science
The Associate in Science in Early Childhood Education provides the course work required by the California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing and Department of Education/Commission on Teacher Credentialing, Child Development Permit. It also provides a foundation for transfer to four-year programs in early childhood education, child development and human development. 60-62 units.
Early Childhood Education - Associate in Science for Transfer
The Associate in Science in Early Childhood Education for Transfer is intended for students who plan to complete a bachelor's degree in a similar major at a CSU campus. The degree provides a foundation for transfer to four-year programs in early childhood education, child development and human development. The program also provides the course work required by the California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing and Department of Education/Commission on Teacher Credentialing, Child Development Permit. 60 units.
Certificates of Achievement
The Anti-Bias Curriculum Certificate of Achievement provides the early childhood education student with a course of study that explores the impact of societal influences on the development of children’s social identity including the implications of oppression and privilege for children, families, programs, classrooms, and teaching. Students completing this certificate will learn developmentally appropriate, inclusive and anti-bias/anti-racist/social justice approaches to support young children and the adults who care for them to embrace human diversity, recognize social bias, and take action on their own and others' behalf. 33.5 units.

Introduction to Child Development Certificate of Completion
The Introduction to Child Development Certificate of Completion is a non credit certificate designed to present the basic concepts of ages and stages, developmental theory, and child observation and analysis from birth to five years of age. Students will apply theory, concepts and terminology to observations, written documentation, and analysis of early childhood development. Prepares students for work in the field of early childhood education and credit bearing early childhood education courses that apply to the California Child Development Permit Matrix. May be offered in bilingual or a distance-learning format. 36 hours
Introduction to Infant/Toddler Development Certificate of Completion
The Introduction to Infant/Toddler Development Certificate of Completion is a non credit certificate designed to allow students to examine the cognitive, language, physical, and social/emotional development of infants and toddlers, how that development is supported through play and relationships and attachments with their family and caregivers. This certificate also examines responsive care practices for supporting infant and toddler development, how infants and toddlers construct knowledge, learn language and culture; and develop relationships, emotional self-regulation, and autonomy. 54-90 hours
