Not necessarily. Students from the local high schools will be prioritized but other students can be considered on a space-available basis. Complete the application as soon as possible to get on the list.

International students and other non-citizens are eligible to apply for the program. However, local high school students will be prioritized, so other students who are interested in joining the program will be considered on a space-available basis.

No. You must sign up before you start your first year at Cabrillo.

All majors.

There will be no additional fees, just the usual fees that all students have! There will be incentives such as a FYE Grant and additional free events and activities.

Keep in mind that registration and student fees are charged for all classes that you enroll in, whether you are part of FYE or not. These fees are charged and then paid from financial aid awards for qualified students. Some students may have a balance depending on their financial aid award package.

You must have a financial aid application on file. Either a FAFSA or CA Dream Act Application. We will then work with the Financial Aid Office to determine your eligibility for these funds.

Opt-out scheduling allows us to register you for classes that are part of the FYE Program. Preview the class schedules here. You will be added to classes with other students in your CAP, click here to learn more, and these courses will help fulfill your GE requirements, whether your goal is an Associate Degree or transfer to a UC, CSU, or private university. Being in these courses with other FYE students also helps create strong relationships with your classmates.

You can change some of the classes if the schedule doesn’t work for you. However, for Fall 2025 you need to remain enrolled in CG 1 your English class in order to be part of the program.

You can change some of the classes if you wish. Note that classes chosen for you are part of the general education requirements, therefore you will need to take the same course at some point to fulfill the GE requirement. For Fall 2025 you need to remain enrolled in CG 1 your English class in order to be part of the program

That’s okay! Choose a CAP that you are interested in. Classes that will be planned for you are part of the general education requirement, so you can at least fulfill your general education requirements before choosing a major by being part of the project.

The program is during your whole first year, that is Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 semester.

No, this program is meant to help you make the transition to college easier, not to overwhelm you with extra work.

Starting college can feel overwhelming. Deciding which classes to take, exploring all the support Cabrillo College offers, making new friends, and connecting with peers who share your interests can be tough. That's where the FYE program comes in, designed to help you conquer these obstacles during your first year. The program also offers support from peer mentors, ready to help you and share their own experiences as students at Cabrillo College.

The FYE Program is designed for students on their way to AA/AS degree or transfer as it fulfills GE requirements. Students getting a certificate have slightly different requirements, therefore it is not suitable for students who are getting a certificate.
