Why Human Services

Our program prepares students to enter the Behavioral Health and Social Services professions by building the skills and knowledge needed to improve the overall quality of life of communities and service populations. Social Justice, human development, child welfare, counseling theory and practice, substance abuse treatment, cultural competence, diversity and equity, ethics, and prevention are all part of a rich curriculum that supports our students’ personal and professional growth.

The curriculum is strongly influenced by the values of diversity, equity, and social justice. We focus on developing a deep understanding of the social, economic, psychological and political elements that contribute to the ills of society. The program is steeped in the development of skills and strategies for alleviating human pain and delivering services to disadvantaged populations.

Many people take our courses and work toward their degree or certificate while working. We work with you toward your success!
