Degrees, Certificates and Courses

The Human Services Program offers an Associate of Science degree, four certificates, and 18 courses, all designed to prepare you to succeed in an exciting field providing service to the community.

Many people take our courses and work toward their degree or certificate while working. We work with you toward your success!

A certificate can be earned in as few as 16 hours!

Degree

The Associate in Science in Human Services prepares students for careers in the helping professions including social work, counseling, substance abuse prevention, and/or treatment. The program provides an overview of the field of human services and explores issues and dynamics within the social services delivery system. A second specialization in drug and alcohol studies prepares students for work in the drug and alcohol treatment field. 60 units.

Certificates

The Drug and Alcohol Studies Certificate of Achievement prepares students to work with alcohol and other drug dependent populations, and the family and employers of chemically dependent persons. It provides an overview of the field of human services with a specific focus on drug and alcohol abuse, prevention theory, intervention, and treatment. 36-38 units

The Family Development Worker Certificate of Completion is a non credit certificate that provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to support, advocate for, and guide families to set and achieve goals for self-empowerment. 16 hours

The Human Services Certificate of Achievement prepares students for professional growth in the field beyond the entry level. It provides an overview of the field of human services and focuses on developing an advanced understanding of human development, child welfare, counseling theory and practice, substance abuse treatment, cultural competence, ethics, and prevention. 31-33 units

The Human Services General Practice Certificate of Achievement prepares students to enter the field of human services in the areas of counseling theory and practice, substance abuse treatment, human development, child welfare, cultural competence, mental health, homelessness, community safety and prevention, domestic abuse, and prevention theory. 16-18 units

The Human Services Practicum courses provide an opportunity for students to experience the day-to-day operations and direct client assistance in local social service and drug treatment agencies. They are supervised by both Associate faculty and full-time faculty.
