Frequently Asked Questions - FAQs

What can I expect at Career Week?

Career Week is an exciting opportunity for students, alumni, and community members to meet with over 60 local employers about part-time positions, internships, and full-time career opportunities.

How do I prepare for the Job Fair?

Learn what employers are attending in advance:

  • Find out the companies attending & narrow the list of companies you are most interested in.
  • Gather information about the employers through their websites.

Be prepared to share your qualifications:

  • Prepare a succinct summary of your qualifications.
  • Rehearse your qualifications outloud, demonstrate your ability to articulate your skills and your preparedness.
  • Prepare questions to ask employer representatives, minimum of 2.
  • Bring extra, updated resumes without objectives.
  • Carry items in a file folder with extra resumes, notepaper, and room to collect and store job fair materials including business cards, brochures, etc.

Dress Appropriately:

  • Dress professionally, yet more conservatively, in clean pressed clothes. See next FAQ: "What should I wear?".

What should I wear?

Students are encouraged to dress for success in business casual. When in doubt, it's better to dress more formally, rather than too casually.

Appropriate business casual outfits for women include a skirt or dress slacks, blouse, sweater, twinset, jacket (optional), and closed-toe shoes. Sandals or peep-toe shoes may be permissible in some offices but save flip-flops for the weekend.

For men, appropriate business casual attire is dress slacks or chinos, a button-down shirt, dark socks, and dress shoes. Avoid wearing polo shirts to an interview, even if they are acceptable for the job in question. Do not wear jeans or shorts. Athletic socks are also a no-no.

Do I need to have a resume?

We highly recommend coming with your resume. We have a resume workshop as part of Career Week on April 6 (join us!) and we will also have professionals available for resume review.

Will employers be hiring?

Yes! Employers will be hiring and some will conduct on-site interviews. Our Monday, May 4 event “How to Prep for a Job Fair,” will have more helpful tips so be sure to come!
